The New York Mets have released Jenrry Mejia.

Mejia was suspended three times for violating Major League Baseball's drug policy.

The 29-year-old was suspended for life on Feb. 12, 2016, after his third positive test for a banned steroid. However, Rob Manfred told him in July that he could return to baseball in 2019.

Mejia was the Mets' closer in 2014 and has four years, 140 days of Major League service and would have been eligible for salary arbitration.
