Cole Hamels has pitched very well for the Chicago Cubs and his performance could end up saving the Texas Rangers $6 million.

The Cubs have won all four of Hamels' starts and the left-hander has a 0.72 ERA and 0.88 WHIP in 25 innings.

The trade agreement between Texas and Chicago calls for the Rangers to send the Cubs approximately $2 million in salary for the remainder of this season and the equivalent of the $6 million buyout in his contract for next year.

However, the Rangers would only be responsible for the money if the Cubs opt out of the deal.

Hamels option for 2019 is $20 million.
