The Houston Astros know they'll have at least one Clemens in the organization in the future: infielder Koby Clemens, the oldest son of their pitching ace. Roger Clemens' son, drafted in the eighth round with the 254th pick, signed a contract Thursday then took batting practice with the team during a workout in Houston. His next stop is Greeneville, Tenn., where he'll join the Astros' rookie league affiliate. "Watching him sign his contract with his mother standing there, I had memories of signing mine with my mother standing there," Roger Clemens said. "Since Koby's been knee-high, he's been wanting to do this. I think he's ready to go." By signing with Houston, Koby Clemens will turn down a scholarship at the University of Texas, the reigning national champion and his father's alma mater. He said breaking the news to Longhorns coach Augie Garrido "was a dreadful phone call," and that he probably would've gone to college if he'd been drafted by a team other than the Astros. "Me and my dad and my mom sat together for two hours last night and talked about all the pros and cons," Koby Clemens said. "I've decided this is the best opportunity for me. I'm kind of still in a little shock."
