The Arizona Diamondbacks have left the door open for J.D. Martinez to return in free agency, keeping his No. 28 locker open in the clubhouse.

"You guys pay attention," Torey Lovullo said when asked whether there was any significance to the open locker. "I think 28 and 29 are numbers that are available. I don't know. I've said it many times: J.D. was a huge part of our ballclub last year, and I know that there's 30 teams that are available to him, and I'll leave it at that. I don't know anything else."

It's considered a longshot that Arizona would be able to re-sign Martinez, but he's yet to ink a deal with another team.

"There's an open locker over there," Archie Bradley said. "I'll let you guys read whatever you want into that."
