Looking to institute pace-of-play initiatives next season, Major League Baseball would like to use a 20-second pitch clock.

Serious negotiations over possible rule changes haven't started yet and probably won't for weeks.

MLB wants to use the same pitch clock that has been tested in the Minor Leagues over the last three seasons. The 20-second limit comes between pitches when there are no runners on base.

According to Fangraphs, no starting pitcher who qualified for the ERA title averaged under 20 seconds between pitches in 2017; the average was about 23.5 seconds.
