Looking for a spark, the Boston Red Sox promoted Sam Travis from Triple-A Pawtucket before Tuesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles.

The Red Sox view Travis as their first baseman of the future, but he will only face left-handers initially.

"He's been swinging the bat well. There's some momentum with Travis, getting him up here," John Farrell said. "The fact is, we're probably looking at four left-handed starters over these next four series. Felt like this was an opportunity to add another right-handed bat."

Travis is batting .344 with six doubles, three home runs and a .909 OPS in his past 23 games for Pawtucket.
