Sandy Alderson says it was his decision to let Noah Syndergaard start for the New York Mets on Sunday, despite the pitcher's refusal to have an MRI on his shoulder and arm before taking the mound.

"It was my decision for Noah to pitch with input with [a] variety of different sources," Alderson said. "The MRI was not dismissed out of hand, and we had to evaluate the situation. ... From the overall standpoint, it is not to say things couldn't have been done differently. From my standpoint, I made the decision."

The Mets put Syndergaard on the 10-day disabled list Monday after an MRI revealed a partial tear of his right lat muscle.

The right-hander was pulled from his start on Thursday because of biceps and shoulder discomfort and had been scheduled for an MRI. However, after Syndergaard threw a bullpen session Friday, he said he felt great and ready to go Sunday.
