Previously tabbed as the most likely candidate for the vacant general manager job with the Boston Red Sox, Frank Wren is now unlikely to fill the position.

Wren, currently Boston's senior vice president of baseball operations, lives in Atlanta and wasn't guaranteed to accept a larger role with the Red Sox even if offered.

The Red Sox are looking for a new GM after Mike Hazen accepted a lead role with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Dave Dombrowski said the club would ideally fill the vacancy internally.
