The Kansas City Royals expect their payroll to decrease for the 2017 season, according to Dayton Moore.

The Royals still plan to contend after a disappointing season, but there will be monetary restraints.

Kansas City had an Opening Day payroll of approximately $135 million and are projected to land near that for next season.

"This [2016] payroll was put together with going deep in the postseason [in mind]," said Moore. "That didn't happen. Again, I'm accountable for that. It's not going to look very good on the spreadsheet when the bill comes due."
