The St. Louis Cardinals are expected to retain Mike Matheny as manager for the 2017 season, the last year of his deal.

St. Louis has been somewhat disappointing with a 82-75 record and five games left to play.

"Mike's done a really good job for us," owner Bill DeWitt, Jr. said. "There's no thought that we're going to go in any different direction." DeWitt went on to explain that Matheny remains "a great leader" who isn't responsible for what has been "one of those years where things haven't worked."
