Jay Bruce has clarified some of the confusion surrounding his trade to the New York Mets on Aug. 1.

According to a report in The Dayton Daily News, when the Cincinnati Reds first told Bruce they intended to trade him, he asked them to send him anywhere but New York.

Bruce clarified those conversations after hitting an important home run for the Mets on Sunday night.

"The Reds came to me very early in the process and asked me where I wanted to go and I gave them three places I wanted to go and New York wasn't one of them," he said.

"But that has nothing to do with the Mets or New York or anything like that. I had personal ties with places I wanted to go. It ended up not working out."

Bruce listed those places as San Francisco, Texas and Los Angeles.

"Absolutely not," Bruce said when asked if he is upset to be with the Mets.

"I got a chance to come play in a playoff race and I'm so happy to be here. Things get misconstrued. Yes, New York was not on my list initially, that's really all there is to it. Definitely wasn't as comfortable with New York as I was the other places, but I'm happy to be here and we're doing exactly what I hoped to do when I got here."
