The Toronto Blue Jays made a play to try and acquire Joey Votto from the Cincinnati Reds last summer.

Jon Heyman notes that they might have continued to pursue Votto had they not shuffled their front office.

The Blue Jays were willing to add Votto on top of Troy Tulowitzki and David Price, which would have made the 2015 lineup even more star-studded.

Votto is a native of Toronto.

There was plenty of work to be done to complete a deal, according to sources. Toronto would have wanted Votto's 10-year, $225 million contract paid down significantly and it isn't known how much, if any, the Reds would have agreed to remain responsible for.
