Jose Berrios has the second-highest ERA (9.32) in the Major Leagues among starters with at least 20 innings, but the Twins are working to change that.

Berrios will have a full week between starts when he takes the mound Thursday night against the Kansas City Royals.

At Target Field on Saturday, Berrios was accompanied by pitching coach Neil Allen, bullpen coach Eddie Guardado, teammate Ervin Santana and Hall of Famer Bert Blyleven for a bullpen session.

"Every time I come here, he gives me big support," Berrios said of Blyleven, who works as Minnesota's lead television analyst. "He says, 'Hey, Jose. Have a good night.' Every start."

Most bullpen sessions only last 30 or 40 pitches, but Berrios smiled and said this session was more like a simulated start.

"I think I threw 100 pitches," he said. "I kept working and working."
