The Cincinnati Reds are confident that Brandon Finnegan can start, but the club hasn't decided if that will be his role over the long-term.

The 23-year-old has a 4.45 ERA over 129 1/3 innings as a starter this season.

"It's really hard to say at this point in time if he's best served as a reliever or as a starter," Bryan Price said. "But we've still got another two months of the season, seven or eight weeks, to help us with that."

The Reds have a lot of young arms at the Minor and Major League level, which will play a role in how they use Finnegan going forward.

"Based on what we have in our system, what we begin the year with next year, will we win more games with him as a starter or a reliever?" Price said of Finnegan. "I can say from my perspective that hasn’t been answered."
