The Miami Marlins nearly kept Mariano Rivera from becoming a New York Yankees legend.

The Marlins were prepared to take Rivera in the 1992 Rule 5 draft, according to Dave Dombrowski, who was the general manager at the time, but the Colorado Rockies took Brad Ausmus before Miami's pick.

Ausmus, who was also property of the Yankees at the time, kept the Marlins from selecting another New York player under the rules of the Rule 5 draft.
