Hal Steinbrenner was the principal member of the New York Yankees' front office to discuss Alex Rodriguez's transition away from the club.

The Yankees are essentially releasing Rodriguez, who it was announced on Sunday will play his final game in pinstripes on Friday while moving into an advisory role as he's owed $26 million next season.

Rodriguez isn't on speaking terms with Randy Levine and Brian Cashman also has a damaged relationship with the slugger.

"The relationship now is professional and good," Cashman said. "I don't avoid him, and I seek him out on certain matters. You can live in a world of grudges or you can forgive and forget."
