Danny Duffy pitched eight innings of one-hit baseball on Monday night, setting a Kansas City Royals record with 16 strikeouts against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Duffy flirted with a no-hitter, which would have been Kansas City's first in 25 years, before giving up a double to Desmond Jennings to lead off the eighth inning.

"There's been a number of occasions when Danny's stepped on the mound and I said this might be the night," Ned Yost said. "But when he got through the seventh I thought this MAY be the night."
