The Minnesota Twins planned to bat Joe Mauer first on Monday night against the Baltimore Orioles before rain postponed the game.

It would have been Mauer's first career game as a leadoff hitter.

"In a lot of ways, you can make the argument for Joe being your best '1' hitter, your best '2' hitter and your best '3' hitter," Paul Molitor said. "So he's tried '2' and '3.' We're going to try him at '1.'"

Minnesota is still expected to try the experiment, beginning on Tuesday night.
