The possibility of a contract extension between the Toronto Blue Jays and Edwin Encarnacion appears to be over.

Encarnacion imposed an Opening Day deadline for talks and his "sole focus" is now on the season.

There were no talks during the final few weeks of spring training.

"If they were going to do something, I was ready," Encarnacion said. "I know I want to stay here, I'd love to stay here, but it's not my decision, it's not something I can control. I'm going to focus on my season and see what's coming."

Encarnacion added: "... after today I don't want to talk anymore or anything like that."

Talks between the two sides reportedly ended when the length of a possible deal was broached.
