After a Wednesday report that Alex Rodriguez plans to retire after the 2017 season, when his contract expires, he told the New York Post that he hasn't made any plans.

"I'm thinking in terms of my contract which ends in 2017. After that, we'll see what happens. I've got two years and more than 300 games to play," Rodriguez said in an email.

Rodriguez hit 33 home runs in 2015. The 40-year-old is owed $21 million each of the next two seasons. He was suspended the entire 2014 season for his use of performance-enhancing drugs.

Mark Teixeira said Rodriguez is capable of being a designated hitter "another five years if he wanted to."

"Talent doesn't go away. Your body can slow down to the point where you just can’t perform anymore," Teixeira told The Post. "But Alex isn't even close to being there. This guy is one of the greatest hitters of all time. I don't see him skipping a beat this season."
