Ian Desmond is moving from shortstop to left field with the Texas Rangers and has reached out to the Kansas City Royals' Alex Gordon for some advice.

"You have to keep a good mind about it,'' Gordon said. "The biggest part is accepting it and having a positive attitude about it.

"You have to keep working at it. There will be mistakes, but you’ll get there.’’

Gordon began the 2010 season as Kansas City's third baseman, but one month into the season he was "blind-sided" by a demotion to Triple-A for a crash course in left field. He has since developed into one of baseball's best at the position.

"You have to be really quick," Gordon said. "There were a lot of mistakes in reading balls off the bat. A lot. ... Eventually, I got there, but it takes a while."

Desmond appreciated Gordon's vote of confidence but will keep pushing and learning.

"I respect his opinion," Desmond said. "But at the same time, I have to believe in myself. That’s only going to come through game situations and work. I want to feel comfortable out there."
