The New York Mets have placed Ruben Tejada on waivers, according to multiple sources.

Tejada is scheduled to make $3 million this season, his final before hitting free agency.

The Mets tendered Tejada a contract before adding Neil Walker and Asdrubal Cabrera in December.

If Tejada goes unclaimed, the Mets could cut him more than 15 days before Opening Day and pay only one-sixth of his salary -- $500,000.
