The Chicago Cubs want Jason Heyward to get some time in center field this month.

Chicago projected Heyward as the starting center fielder when they signed him, but have since re-signed Dexter Fowler and bought Shane Victorino into the mix.

"We do need to get him some work in center field, too," Joe Maddon said. "We have other options to play that position now. As it moves forward, you have to look at the eventual roster design, who's going to back up in center field and how good you feel about that.

"Right now, I'm happy with him settling in. We may want to approach that at some point, but it's not a pressing issue right now."

Over his Major League career, Heyward has played 774 of his 835 games in right field.
