The New York Mets plan to honor Matt Piazza by retiring his No. 31 on July 30 before a game against the Colorado Rockies.

The event will be part of a weekend-long celebration at Citi Field.

Piazza is due to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on July 24. He will join Tom Seaver as the only players to go in wearing a Mets cap on their plaque.

"It is such a tremendous honor to have my number retired alongside the great Tom Seaver," Piazza said. "My time as a Met was truly special, and I want to thank Fred, Saul, Jeff and the entire organization for this incredible gesture."
