J.P. Ricciardi, who has had a large voice in the New York Mets front office in recent years, could take on a bigger role with Paul DePodesta leaving for the NFL.

Sandy Alderson is expected to have a meeting with his front office in New York this week to discuss how duties will be arranged.

"I'm very happy for Paul," Ricciardi said. "He's so unique in what he brought to the table for us. He's a big loss, but we feel we have good people in place and some younger kids in our front office that can step in."

Ricciardi is happy in his scouting/player development role, but is open to anything.
