Edwin Encarnacion will prepare for free agency if no extension is worked out with the Toronto Blue Jays by the end of spring training, according to multiple sources.

Encarnacion could draw significant interest on the free agent market after the 2016 season, especially from the Boston Red Sox. He has a history with manager John Farrell, who spent time in Toronto.

He is set to make $10 million in the final year of his four-year contract.
