The Seattle Mariners and Tampa Bay Rays completed a six-player swap on Thursday night, the first significant move of the offseason.

The Mariners sent Brad Miller, Logan Morrison, and Danny Farquhar to the Rays in exchange for Nathan Karns, C.J. Riefenhauser and outfield prospect Boog Powell.

All three of the players Seattle traded played extensive roles with the club in 2015, but weren't seen as part of the future under the new front office regime. Jerry Dipoto said discussions with Tampa Bay began right after the conclusion of the regular season and less than two weeks after he took the job.

"We've talked to the Rays pretty consistently close to the last four weeks," he said.
