Darren Balsley will return to the San Diego Padres for his 14th season as the team's pitching coach, according to a source.

The contracts of San Diego's coaching staff expired Saturday.

Balsley, 51, has been in his current role since 2003, when Bruce Bochy was the manager.

He has since worked under Bud Black for eight-plus seasons and then under interim manager Pat Murphy this year. He had considered going to the Washington Nationals with Black, but opted to remain under new manager Andy Green.
