The New York Yankees called Ben Cherington about a job in their front office not long after he resigned as general manager of the Boston Red Sox.

"I reached out to him," Brian Cashman told The New York Post. "I have a lot of respect for him, his integrity and how he did his job."

Cherington could have become New York's assistant general manager. Billy Eppler left for the Los Angeles Angels.
