The Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants have both laid claim to Eddy Julio Martinez, but Major League Baseball officials are hoping to sort out who the Cuban outfielder will play for in the near future.

Officials are hoping to resolve the matter as soon as this week.

Not only have the Cubs and Giants both reached agreements with Martinez, but there also appears to be multiple people claiming to be his agent.

It all started when Martinez or a representative of his reached an agreement with the Giants reported to be worth $2.5 million. The Giants were under the impression the agreement with binding, but Martinez or another representative then made a deal with the Cubs for a reported $3 million.

At the heart of the matter is whether the deal with the Giants is a binding deal that should count.
