The San Diego Padres plan to interview Ron Gardenhire for their vacant managerial position, according to sources.

"We're betting on a person, we're betting on a guy we feel like can be a leader," general manager A.J. Preller said last week when discussing what he'll look for in a candidate, "someone who can bring more on the relationship and culture side, more on the day-to-day leadership. The clubhouse, the communication, I think that's going to be the biggest thing."

Gardenhire, who didn't manage in 2015 after parting ways with the Minnesota Twins, has also been linked to the Washington Nationals.
