The Kansas City Royals are division championships for the first time in 30 years.

Kansas City defeated the Seattle Mariners 10-4 on Thursday night to clinch the American League Central crown.

"I've felt all along we would win this division," Ned Yost said. "I've got my eyes on a much bigger prize. This is the first step of it."

It is Kansas City's first division title since 1985, when George Brett led the Royals to the AL West crown en route to their only World Series championship.

"It's a huge accomplishment," Ben Zobrist said. "It hasn't been done here for a long time. There's a lot of guys in this clubhouse I've talked to that have toiled for years to get to this point, to win the division. For them to do it, you can see the kind of sigh of relief, the excitement in the organization."
