The Philadelphia Phillies are in the "early stages" of their search for a general manager.

The club let Ruben Amaro, Jr. go earlier this month and Andy MacPhail hopes to have someone in place prior to the organizational meetings, which begin on Oct. 26.

"I've had one interview, but just one," MacPhail said. "I would say [it's in the] early stages."

Philadelphia is expected to hire someone outside the organization.
