Right-hander Jon Lieber was struck on the right elbow by a line drive during the first inning Tuesday night in Pittsburgh, but X-rays did not show any broken bones. With runners on first and second and two outs, Jose Castillo's shot up the middle deflected off Lieber to third baseman David Bell, who tagged out Jason Bay running from second. Lieber did not return to pitch the second, with Geoff Geary replacing him. Lieber went to the clubhouse to be evaluated by the team's medical staff, then was taken to a hospital for X-rays. The right-hander said he probably won't know until he is examined by team doctors Friday in Philadelphia if he can make his next scheduled start Sunday against Washington. Lieber (8-8, 5.13 ERA) has lost his last four decisions, but was 7-1 in his career against the Pirates, his former team.
