Mike Trout struggled in the month of August, joining a number of his Los Angeles Angels teammates as they slide down the standings.

Trout, who is having another MVP-worthy season overall, hit just .218/.352/.337 in the month of August. For the season he has a slash line of .296/.397/.571. In July, his OPS was nearly double (1.323 to .689) that of August.

He slumped last August, but still had some power with four home runs. This August, he hit just one home run over the entire month. His groundball rate has increased as of late.

Nearly half of the balls he hit in August were on the ground, something he has looked to actively move away from in the past. He's still hitting the ball as hard as we've come to expect, based on exit velocity, but something is off.

Trout, himself, insists that a wrist injury that cost him a few games in late July isn't to blame for the woes.
