The Philadelphia Phillies, who ESPN ranked last among all Major League clubs in the use of analytics earlier this year, are introducing a new approach.

Andy MacPhail has been added to the front office this season and will officially take over for Pat Gillick as team president this fall.

"The Phillies have even hitched a ride on the sabermetrics train. The franchise's new proprietary computer system, PHIL (short for Phillies' Holistic Information Location) will be up and running in September," writes Jerry Crasnick.
