Mark Shapiro has emerged as a strong candidate to replace Paul Beeston as the president and CEO of the Toronto Blue Jays, according to a report.

Toronto has already reached out to Shapiro, who currently works as the president of the Cleveland Indians.

Shapiro, 48, served as Cleveland's general manager for 10 seasons before a promotion to club president that saw longtime lieutenant Chris Antonetti promoted to general manager.

Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos is signed through October 31 and would work under any new president if he remains on the job.
