James Shields has cleared revocable trade waivers and the San Diego Padres can now trade him to any team.

It was expected that Shields would go unclaimed because of his large contract.

The right-hander is owed $2.25 million over the remainder of 2015 and then $21 million in each of the next three years plus a $16 million team option ($2 million buyout) for 2019.
