The Texas Rangers plan to use Mike Napoli in a platoon with Mitch Moreland at first base.

Napoli is a better option than Moreland against left-handed pitchers. The Rangers have no plans to use Napoli at catcher. He hasn't caught since leaving the club in 2012.

Texas acquired Napoli in a waiver deal with the Boston Red Sox. He is owed $5.2 million over the remainder of the season, but Boston will cover $3.7 million of that.
