Walt Jocketty told MLB Network Radio that he nearly dealt Johnny Cueto to an undisclosed team before the Kansas City Royals stepped in with a better offer.

"We had the Cueto deal done, then another team came in, and I was actually able to get a little more out of the Royals," Jocketty said.

The prize of the deal for the Cincinnati Reds was left-hander Brandon Finnegan.

"The plan is to develop him at Louisville as a starter the rest of the Minor League season," Jocketty said.
