Doug Melvin told Jim Duquette and Jim Bowden of MLB Network Radio after the trade deadline that he believes "the [New York] Mets have taken some unfair criticism about asking for money back in the [Carlos] Gomez deal."

The Milwaukee Brewers had a deal in place with the Mets that would have sent Gomez to New York in exchange for Zack Wheeler and Wilmer Flores, but talks broke down in the very late stages after it was believed that the trade had been completed.

Melvin explained that teams often ask for money in one form or another in deals, as "it's all part of the GM landscape these days."
