Bill Stoneman does not have a history of making midseason acquisitions, but isn't opposed to making moves as the Los Angeles Angels aim for the playoffs this season.

Stoneman, 71, took over as the team's general manager when Jerry Dipoto resigned last week.

"It doesn't matter if it's July or January, if it helps you, you do it," Stoneman said. "If it's not going to help you, you don't do it just because people are hoping you do something. If you do something because people are expecting you to do something, and it doesn't help you, why would you do it?"

Stoneman added that he and assistant general manager Matt Klentak will share equally in trade talks.

"I suppose I'd have the final say (on a trade)," he said. "I would look at it and say, what is my knowledge base? It could be stuff (the other members of the baseball operations department) are more up to speed on."
