Marco Estrada retired the first 22 batters he faced for the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon, following up another no-hit bid in his previous start.

Estrada is the first Major League pitcher to take a no-hitter into the eighth inning in consecutive starts since Dave Stieb, also with Toronto, did so in 1988 -- both times with two outs in the ninth and two strikes on the batter, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

The right-hander has a 3.45 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 63 strikeouts in 73 innings this season.
