Brad Ausmus didn't hide his frustration with Major League Baseball's replay system after a questionable call on Tuesday night.

Trailing the Cincinnati Reds 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Detroit Tigers thought they had taken the lead when Yoenis Cespedes lined a single off pitcher Michael Lorenzen's leg with the bases loaded. James McCann scored easily from third, but plate umpire Mike Everitt ruled that Joey Votto's throw home beat Anthony Gose to end the inning.

The Tigers challenged, and replays seemed to indicate that Gose had barely beaten Brayan Pena's tag, but the call was upheld after a 3:38 delay.

"I definitely think that instant replay has regressed this season," Ausmus said. "I thought for the most part, they changed calls in order to get the play right, and they did that on a regular basis.

"I'm not seeing that this year."
