Jose Fernandez will take the mound for the Miami Marlins on July 2, roughly 14 months from his last Major League pitch.

The right-hander said during the team's television broadcast of Monday night's game against the New York Yankees that he is scheduled to return to the rotation July 2 at Marlins Park against the San Francisco Giants.

"I'm happy to say it," Fernandez said. "It gives me the chills. ... I just can't wait to be on that mound and throw some good fastballs."

Fernandez, who had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow last year, has made two starts for Class A Jupiter and will take his rehab to Triple-A New Orleans for his next start on Wednesday.
