The New York Mets plan to designate Dillon Gee for assignment.

Gee tied a career-high with eight runs allowed on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves.

Noah Syndergaard was promoted and took hold of a rotation spot while Gee was on the disabled list recently.

The Mets initially contemplated a six-man rotation upon Gee's return, but quickly abandoned the concept.

Gee is earning $5.3 million this season and has one more year of arbitration eligibility before free agency.
