Masahiro Tanaka threw 29 pitches during a bullpen session on Monday as he works his way back from wrist and forearm injuries.

The New York Yankees will likely send the right-hander on a minor league rehabilitation assignment. The belief is that Tanaka will need at least one or two of those, meaning he wouldn't return to the Major Leagues until the end of the month at the earliest.

Tanaka has a 3.22 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 24 strikeouts and seven walks in 22.1 innings (four starts) this season.
