Joe Kelly, who has a 5.58 ERA and 2-to-1 strikeout to walk ratio through seven starts for the Boston Red Sox, is still adjusting to life without catcher Yadier Molina.

Kelly has thrown more 98 mph-plus pitches than any Major League starter in 2015.

However, he has struggled since the Red Sox acquired him from the St. Louis Cardinals at last July's non-waiver trade deadline.

Kelly is still adjusting to life away from the Cardinals, where Molina called all of his pitches. Kelly is being asked to call his own pitches in Boston as rookie catcher Blake Swihart gains Major League experience.

"Probably recognizing hitters and pitching," Kelly said when asked what part of living the life of a starting pitcher he has improved on the most. "When I was in St. Louis I didn't have to think. Yadier just threw out a sign and I threw it. It was great. But now I'm actually better at reading games, knowing situations, I do my own scouting and I do my own video. I did a little bit of it in St. Louis, but it's more of me trying to read and watch. My stats don't show, but I feel like I'm better at it."

Kelly had a 2.81 ERA in the 49 games that he threw to Molina in St. Louis.
