Corey Kluber struck out 18 batters in eight innings as the Cleveland Indians beat the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night.

Kluber needed just 113 pitches to get through eight innings, but the Indians opted to replace him in the ninth inning.

The right-hander had a Game Score of 98. Bill James created Game Score as a way of evaluating a start. Fifty is about average, 80 is great and each season a handful of games will top 90.

There have only been 11 games of nine innings in which a pitcher scored at least 100. Kluber may have thrown the best eight-inning start in the last 100 years. No pitcher has posted a higher Game Score over eight innings than Kluber did against the Cardinals.
