Jonathan Papelbon earned a save on Wednesday night as the Philadelphia Phillies topped the Pittsburgh Pirates, allowing him to set the all-time franchise mark for saves.
Papelbon passed Jose Mesa with his 113th save. He has seven saves in as many tries this season.
"I've always said a closer is nobody without the teammates in front of him," Papelbon said. "It's ironic because tonight I couldn't get that opportunity if my teammates don't pick me up."
The right-hander is also the saves leader for the Boston Red Sox.
